A recent blog from Louisa Whitney Member BRX Dorking.
Here at BRX Dorking we have all been working hard over our bacon and eggs in recent months. BRX is not just about the business networking and referrals, our members also support each other in business. Recently we had a new member join us who is having to look at marketing their services for the first time. This is a strange step to take when you have not had to do this before. As fellow members we were able to listen and make suggestions as to how this could be done. The advice that was offered varied from the more general way in which selling a service can be effective through to more specific pieces of advice about using social media for marketing purposes. After this breakfast the member sent round a link to their new website profile and we were all able to look at this and to provide feedback as to how this could be improved, and what we liked about it and felt was working well. This support, feedback and experience sharing has proved enormously helpful to all of our members.
Another member indicated that they wanted to change the costing structure of their business in order to offer fixed fee options as well as a pay as you go service. It was suggested that once the new structure had been worked out it was presented to the group so that they could provide feedback on this. The group is able to support members looking at developing and changing their businesses and to provide suggestions and ideas – based on their business experience, and also on their own personal experiences of using services.
Making suggestions and offering advice is all part of the breakfast at BRX. Every week each member will offer a 60 second presentation on what they do and what kind of referals they are looking for. Sometimes a member may outline a dilemma, or a particular point about developing their business that they are struggling with. The group will then offer support, advice and feedback – as well as asking more questions about the situation. This business support is particularly invaluable to many small business owners who may not have marketing managers, or other support people within their small business. Many of the people around the BRX breakfast table run their own business and employ only themselves, so an opportunity to talk about ideas and decisions is always welcome. A fresh perspective can be refreshing and can help the member to consider ideas or suggestions that they may not have thought of.
It’s also a chance to learn from other people’s experiences and to get new ideas that may benefit your own business. It’s always an energising and invigorating breakfast meeting at BRX. If you’re interested in joining our dynamic and friendly group then please get in touch with Tony Lyons.
